Originally from Long Island, New York, Lance Vallis moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. He spent many years in the Boston area playing in various rock, jazz, and hip hop groups, as well as musical theater pit bands. In 2011, he moved to Portland, Oregon, and soon afterward began a career as a cruise ship musician, performing for Norwegian, Celebrity, and Princess Cruises. In 2015, he received his Masters of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Portland State University. He started the band Special Purpose the following year. In addition to Special Purpose, Lance performs regularly around the Portland area in a variety of group and solo settings. He is also a guitar teacher and college instructor, currently teaching History of Rock Music online through Klamath Community College.
Melissa Carroll is a dynamic saxophonist, flutist and educator based in Portland, Oregon. Since 2013, she's been a vibrant presence in the local jazz scene, specializing in high-energy jazz-funk. A proud alumna of Portland State University's jazz program, Melissa currently channels her groove-infused talents into Special Purpose. She loves long distance cycling and true crime.

Meet Joshua Slamp, a Northwest native who grew up in a musical family. With a passion for music that ignited at age 9 on the piano, he later took the trombone and eventually found his true calling on the guitar and bass. A self-taught musician, Joshua has lent his talents to various acts, including Mojo Phooey, Pilar French Intention, You Know Nothing, Suspension, and Urban Jack, showcasing his versatility across genres like Rock, Pop, Funk, and Punk His journey reflects a relentless pursuit of creativity and a unique musical voice.
